One of my friends, Robbin, posted a message today that exactly describes my beliefs.

Like Robbin, I have faith, and I am happy and content with that faith.  God was there before the first religion ever existed, and will continue beyond conception.  It is a personal thing for me.  I have no need to join in a community to express it, because my faith is between God and me.

This is actually one of the reasons I so dislike the ongoing attempts to force the inclusion of God into public life.  I don’t want religion to be a part of my government, because then I will be forced to include someone else’s religion in my life, if only in tiny ways.  I never wanted prayer in my schools, because I never wanted to invite the public into what is a private expression of my faith and personal connection with God.  It’s actually okay with me to take “In God We Trust” off of our money.  It’s okay with me to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.  God is in my heart.  I don’t need God on my money.

    Perfect.

Religion does not have the corner on morality. They just think they do.

Thanks … and I think I probably edited out the morality part from the original post. Not because I don’t believe it, but because I went back thought I needed to focus the essay a bit more. LOL. So everybody else who reads this may wonder what you are talking about in your comment … I’ll probably do a separate post on my morality to get back the stuff I ended up deleting.
